Platinum Jubilee Celebrated with Jersey Stamp

A single £10 commemorative stamp featuring a stunning portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be issued by Jersey Post on 1 June 2022 in celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.

Issued in time for the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday, the Jersey stamp features a photographic portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II taken by Dorothy Wilding in 1952, the year of Her Majesty’s accession. The Queen can be seen wearing the George IV State Diadem which she also wore to her Coronation in 1953.

The stamp has been designed by Bristol-based design agency, So Design. Creative Director, Steve Haskins says of the project: “We were delighted to be able to work on such a prestigious stamp issue for Jersey Post. We were inspired by original portraits of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II taken by Dorothy Wilding in 1952. These unique portraits encapsulate the style and elegance of the period and provided a real celebratory image. We created classic typography, regal flourishes and intricate embroidery detail from The Queen’s Coronation gown to embellish the portrait. The addition of a range of unique printing processes helped to make this a very special stamp issue.”

The stamp has been printed with several special ink effects, chosen to reflect the nature of the occasion, including platinum suprametal ink and silver hot foil typography, spot UV varnished flourishes and an iridescent ink which gives Her Majesty’s dress, crown and necklace a subtle sparkle.

6 February 2022 marked the 70th anniversary of the accession of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. The Jubilee marks seven decades of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and plans to commemorate this momentous and unprecedented occasion extend far beyond the shores of the British Isles, with celebrations taking place as far as Australia and the Cayman Islands.

Jersey Post’s Platinum Jubilee stamp will be available to buy from all branches of Jersey Post from 1 June 2022, whilst philatelic stamp products such as sheets of four, first day covers and presentation packs will be available from the Jersey post offices at Broad Street and Rue Des Pres.
