Vote for Jersey in this year's 2024 EUROPA competition

2024 EUROPA Theme
PostEurop has launched a 2024 most beautiful EUROPA stamp competition, based on the theme ‘Underwater Fauna and Flora’.
To explain why the theme was chosen, the Chair of the PostEurop Stamps & Philately Working Group, Agnieszka Trząskowska stated: “The 2024 EUROPA Stamps - Underwater Fauna & Flora theme, depicts the remarkable diversity of aquatic life in Europe's oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, and springs. Despite this richness, human activity such as water pollution and climate change, have severely impacted aquatic biodiversity, leading to the loss of numerous species. In response, the European Union introduced the EU 2030 Biodiversity Strategy in 2020 to restore ecosystems affected by these challenges. We hope that this year’s theme will raise awareness on conservation efforts. Through exquisite designs depicting protected species, water lilies, and marine life, we aim to inspire collectors and enthusiasts to reflect on the importance of preserving our aquatic environments for future generations.”
This year’s EUROPA Stamps are more than just postage or collectible items—they're windows into the mesmerizing underwater world of Europe. Each stamp is a work of art, capturing the vibrant tapestry of marine life found in Europe's seas, rivers, and lakes. From delicate seahorses dancing in seagrass meadows to vibrant corals bustling with activity, these stamps offer a glimpse into the breathtaking biodiversity beneath the waves, beneath the coolness of a lake. Whether through intricate illustrations or stunning photographs, these stamps showcase the rich tapestry of life that thrives in European waters. With every stamp, collectors and enthusiasts are transported to these underwater realms, fostering awe and appreciation for the wonders of nature.
Jersey Stamps EUROPA Underwater Fauna and Flora
Jersey Stamps opted to interpret the theme with a stamp issue featuring beautiful underwater images taken around Jersey’s bays and coastline by local photographer Nicola Miskin. The natural underwater environment surrounding Jersey is teeming with marine creatures and abundant plant life hidden from view beneath the water’s surface.
Underwater Fauna and Flora features images captured from around the coast of Jersey by local cold water swimmer and underwater photographer Nicola Miskin. Nicola is passionate about cold water swimming and capturing the beauty beneath the surface, she says, “The sea is my happy place every season, any weather.”
Jersey Stamps - Flat Periwinkle
Only one stamp can be chosen to be put forward for the competition. This year, we chose the £2.15 stamp, which features a beautiful image of one of Jersey’s local underwater fauna, the flat periwinkle. Mostly found within seaweed across the lower end of the shore where they feed. The flat periwinkle comes in various colours, which can include orange, olive green, bright yellow and various browns, which make them difficult to spot when within seaweed.
