Crest of Jersey Definitives 2015 - 10p Sheet of 25

Crest of Jersey Definitives 2015 - 10p Sheet of 25

£2.50

With permission granted to Jersey Post by the Bailiff of Jersey, ten Definitive stamps depict the Crest of Jersey in a palette of colours chosen to reflect a contemporary representation for the Islanders of today. The names of all twelve Island parishes are printed in micro text in the background waves on the stamps.

The ten stamps are accompanied by a £5 stamp issued as a hologram incorporating three different holographic effects. This new £5 Definitive stamp is the first stamp in the world to feature the effect of a hologram which has been embossed.

The sheet selvedges include the traffic lights which is a term used by collectors to denote the check dots (or colour dabs) printed in the sheet margins of stamps printed by modern offset litho or photogravure methods. They assist in checking that all the colours have printed correctly.

Most of our selvedge sheets also contain a plate number; a numeral, occasionally with a letter suffix, usually inscribed on the sheet margins to denote the plate from which the stamps were printed - for example 1A.

All our mint/cto products are carefully prepared by our own team and supplied in glassine bags to ensure you receive them in pristine condition.

Additional Information

The Crest of Jersey is a red shield with three gold leopards passant guardant. The beast most often found in heraldry is the lion and the lion passant guardant has often been referred to as a leopard by French and English heralds. The words passant and guardant refer to the attitude, or position, of the animal on the crest and the word ‘dexter’ indicates the viewer’s left: a lion, or leopard passant, walks towards dexter with the right forepaw raised and all others on the ground. Early English heraldry holds that any lion in a walking position is in fact a leopard and French heraldry maintains this to this day. The description guardant indicates an animal with its head turned to face the viewer.

Definitive stamps are stamps in general use, often of small size and featuring a monarch or other national symbol. Jersey Post's definitive stamps remail on sale for at least five years.
