Historic Jersey Maps - 70p Sheet of Ten
£7.00
The 70p stamp illustrates the map created by Jansson in 1646. Jan Jansson was a Dutch cartographer and seen as the direct successor of Mercator. As such, it is of no surprise that his maps were based on the works of Mercator and another cartographer, John Speed. The strange thing about Jansson’s map of Jersey is that he places the Island in the German Sea.
