The Birth of Formula One - Part One - 54p Sheet

The Birth of Formula One - Part One - 54p Sheet

£5.40

This stamp sheet depicts British Formula One World Champion Mike Hawthorn. Britain’s first Formula One World Champion was by no means the best-known British driver of his era, for most of his career he was overshadowed by Stirling Moss who never became World-Champion. Racing for Ferrari and leading the 1958 championship going into the final race, his rival Moss won driving a Vanwall, but Hawthorn’s second place secured him the title. He immediately announced that he was to quit the sport at the age of only 29, but three months later he was tragically killed in a road accident
