This stamp sheet depicts British Formula One World Champion Jim Clark. Clark is often considered the greatest Formula One driver of all time. Driving for the British Team Lotus, Clark won the title in 1963 and again in 1965. The Scotsman was tragically killed age 32 in a Formula Two race at Hockenheim when his Lotus left the track and hit a tree following a high-speed tyre failure.

Formula One is the highest class of international auto racing for single-seater formula racing cars sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile. Originally called Formula A, the first race to approved Formula One rules was a Grand Prix race held at Valentino Park, Turin, Italy, in 1946. In celebration of the Formula One World Championships, we have issued a total of 10 stamps, over a two-part series featuring ten of the top British Formula One champions.
Part One is made up of five stamps, a miniature sheet and a souvenir sheetlet showcasing five British world champions. The five stamps feature Mike Hawthorn, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Damon Hill and Jenson Button. The miniature sheet features James Hunt.
