150 Years of The Band of the Island of Jersey

Jersey Post is proud to mark a significant cultural milestone with the release of a special stamp issue celebrating the 150th anniversary of The Band of the Island of Jersey - one of the island’s most enduring and respected musical institutions.

Founded in 1876, the Band has long played a central role in Jersey’s ceremonial, cultural, and charitable life. For generations, its musicians have provided the soundtrack to key island occasions, from prestigious Government House levées to royal visits and public celebrations.

At the heart of the Band’s dynamic performances is its disciplined Corps of Drums, leading parades with precision and setting the rhythm that unites the entire ensemble. Their dedication to excellence is reflected in their ongoing training with HM Royal Marines, helping to uphold the Band’s distinguished reputation.

The Band’s striking visual identity is equally iconic. Members perform in distinctive uniforms complete with bold leopard-print elements, which is a nod to the historic flair adopted by military bands in past centuries, alongside unique design features representing the Bailiwick of Jersey.

Beyond its ceremonial role, the Band remains deeply committed to the future of music on the island. Through structured training and mentoring, it nurtures musicians of all ages, ensuring that new talent continues to flourish and the Band’s legacy endures.

As a non-profit organisation, the Band relies on community support to maintain its high standards, with funds raised at local events contributing to uniforms, instruments, and facilities.

This thoughtfully designed stamp issue offers a tribute to the history, dedication, and community spirit of The Band of the Island of Jersey. Collectors and enthusiasts are invited to discover more about this special release and the stories behind it.

The issue is available to purchase online at www.jerseystamps.com and from local post offices, including Broad Street and Rue Des Pres. This set includes eight stamps, a miniature sheetlet, first day covers and a set of presentation packs.
