Celebrating 10 Years of the Jersey Flag on Post & Go Stamps
Jersey Post is proud to announce the release of a new set of Post & Go stamps featuring the updated Jersey Flag, launching on 15 February 2024. The latest issue marks the 10th anniversary since the Jersey Flag was first introduced to the Post & Go collection in 2014. In this special 2024 edition, the design has been updated to feature the cypher of His Majesty King Charles III, to reflect the start of a new royal era.
A Flag with a proud an unique history
The Jersey Flag, with its striking red saltire and crest, carries a rich heritage. While a plain red saltire had been in unofficial use since at least the 1830s, its symbolism became clearer in a 1906 letter by the Bailiff of Jersey, describing it at lest the 1830s, its symbolism became clearer in a 1906 letter by the Bailiff of Jersey, describing it as 'the red St Andrew's cross on white ground'. It was historically flown to indicate the neutrality of the Channel Islands during conflicts between England and France. In the 1980s, the Crest of Jersey was officially added to the design to further distinguish it from similar flags.
What are Post & Go stamps?
Originally launched by Royal Mail in 2008, Post & Go stamps are self-adhesive stamps dispensed from kiosks, ideal for both everyday use and stamp collecting. Jersey Post adopted the system shortly after and has continued to issue unique Post & Go designs annually. Since December 2023, the Royal Mail is no longer issuing Post & Go stamps, while Jersey Post aims to continue the issues and overprints. This makes Jersey Post one of the few remaining postal administrations continuing to release new Post & Go material.
