Lunar New Year - Year of the Horse

Lunar New Year – Year of the Horse is the eleventh lunar new year issue to be illustrated by Chief Art Consultant at China Post, Wang Huming. Since 2016, Jersey Post has celebrated the international celebration of Chinese New Year. By taking inspiration from original Chinese paper cutting and popular artwork from the Qing dynasty, the artist has created a unique design to celebrate this year’s fire horse.

In ancient China, the ten Heavenly Stems and twelve Earthly Branches formed a timekeeping system that operated on a sixty-year cycle. The twelve symbolic animals associated with the Earthly Branches make up the Chinese zodiac. In Chinese folk culture, the animal linked to a person’s birth year is regarded as their birth sign, representing good fortune and happiness.

In Chinese culture, the horse stands as a powerful emblem of strength, freedom, loyalty, and courage. Celebrated throughout history as a trusted companion, it represents bold spirit and unwavering determination.

Those born in the Year of the Horse are often seen as energetic, independent, and deeply driven. Their passion and perseverance are believed to pave the way for success, positioning them as natural innovators and inspiring leaders poised to make their mark.

This issue will be available to purchase on Tuesday 27 January 2026 online or within any Jersey Post office and a miniature sheet, first day covers and presentation packs, which can be purchased at Rue Des Pres or Broad Street and online.
