Images courtesy of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. Additionally, Gerald’s playful illustrations or ‘zoodles’ as he affectionately called them, which he’d often drawn over meeting notes, have been imposed on top of each image and outlined in magenta, said to be one of his favourite colours.

The pair collection includes two stamps from each tariff.

Following on from the stamp set issued in January this year 100 Years of Gerald Durrell: Conservation, this set focuses more on the person behind the legacy. To gain an understanding of who Gerald was, the Jersey Post Philatelic team met up with Gerald Durrell’s widow, Lee Durrell and Archivist Catherine Kirby who were incredibly helpful in providing insight into Gerald Durrell.

Upon looking through the archive, Gerald’s playful nature could be seen throughout the documented meeting notes, letters and diary entries which included a number of doodles, affectionately renamed zoodles. To inject an element of his fun personality to the stamps, the ‘zoodles’ have been imposed over the photographs.
