Commemorating 85 Years Since the Evacuation of Jersey
June 19, 2025

This year marks a poignant milestone in Jersey’s history: 85 years since the evacuation of islanders ahead of the German occupation during World War II. To honour this significant anniversary, Jersey Post has released a special Post & Go stamp issue featuring a commemorative overprint: ‘85 Yrs Evacuation’.
In June 1940, as the threat of Nazi invasion grew, the British government declared the Channel Islands indefensible. With little time to prepare, Jersey residents, many of them children, were evacuated to mainland Britain. Families were torn apart, homes left behind, and lives changed forever. It was one of the most emotionally charged chapters in Jersey’s wartime experience, and its legacy still resonates today.
The new Post & Go stamps, available online at www.jerseystamps.com, use the existing Flag of Jersey design—symbolising the strength and resilience of the Island’s identity—enhanced by the solemn overprint to mark the 85th anniversary. This issue serves as both a tribute to those who were displaced and a reminder of the enduring spirit of the Jersey community.
Collectors and history enthusiasts alike will value this release, not just as a postal item, but as a meaningful piece of Jersey’s story. The overprint adds a unique historical context to an otherwise familiar design, encouraging reflection on the impact of war on small communities.
The "85 Yrs Evacuation" Post & Go stamps are available for a limited time and offer a fitting way to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who lived through this defining moment in Jersey’s past.
